Aluminium bronze

Aluminium bronzes are alloys whose main alloying element in copper is aluminium. Its presence in alloys increases their strength and hardness. It is produced by the continuous casting process according to EN 1982 with a machining allowance. In case of a requirement for a stricter dimensional tolerance without machining allowance, aluminium bronzes are produced as extruded or extruded and cold drawn according to EN 12163, EN 12167, EN 12420. Round bars, hexagonal bars, square bars and flat bars are supplied in this condition. Tubes are supplied according to DIN 1714.

Profiles and tubes with machining addition are most often available in stock in CuAl10Fe5Ni5 alloy; bars without machining addition are available in CuAl10Ni5Fe4 alloy.    

Aluminium bronzes are used for the manufacture of machine parts that are highly stressed by friction, shock or acyclic loading such as gears, screw wheels, press nuts, bearing pans, bushings, machine tool spindles, etc. Other uses are, for example, for the manufacture of sheet metal drawing tools, guides or rails.

Due to their excellent corrosion resistance they are also used in the petrochemical industry, for the manufacture of equipment in contact with seawater or other aggressive environments (acids, alkalis). These applications include various types of valves, propellers, turbines and more.

Standard production lengths of profiles and tubes are 3000 mm. It is also possible to deliver them in cross-sections without the requirement for a minimum quantity.
