Cast iron foundry, grey cast iron foundry, cast iron production
UCB Technometal’s cast iron foundry is part of the United Cast Bar Ltd Group. It was formed in February 1998 by the merger of three prestigious European continuous casting foundries: Eurocast Bar Limited (UK), Starkey’s Technicast Limited (UK) and Cast Profil SA (Spain) and their warehouses and service centres. We are constantly improving the production process of cast iron.
Cast iron production
The Group’s main portfolio is the production of cast iron under the Unibar brand. Both grey and nodular cast iron Unibar has many advantages over other materials that can be attributed to two phases in their structure: a steel-like iron phase and a graphite phase with graphite in flake or bead form. The main advantages of Unibar can be categorised in terms of physical properties as well as economic and commercial advantages.
Grey cast iron foundry
The UCB Technometalgrey cast iron foundry produces grey cast iron in several hardness classes (Unibar 200 to Unibar 350). Other parameters such as ductility, thermal conductivity, etc., are then determined by the hardness class. Grey cast iron (cast iron with flake graphite) has a high ability to absorb shock and vibration, as well as good lubricating properties. Our grey cast iron foundry guarantees first-class quality of cast iron produced according to Czech and international standards.
The products of our grey cast iron foundry excel in the following areas:
- Machinability
- Great surface quality
- 10% weight reduction compared to steel
- Excellent vibration damping
- Shorter machining and grinding times
- Finer grain structure than sand casting
- No sand inclusions or dimensional casting problems
- No need to produce expensive models
We can add other machining services to the grey cast iron supplied, namely cutting, turning, milling, peeling, drilling, etc.
Our Unibar grey cast iron is particularly suitable for the engineering, machine building and processing industries within the glass industry. The excellent mechanical properties of Unibar provide a number of advantages over other materials (steel) or other processing methods (sand casting).

Ductile iron foundry
The UCB Technometal foundry also produces ductile iron. Compared to grey cast iron, ductile cast iron has graphite in the form of beads excluded. Ductile iron is supplied in UNIBAR 400-15 to UNIBAR 700-2 grades, mostly in round and square cross-sections.
