Tin bronze

Tin bronzes are the most widely used bronze alloys in industry. They are also often referred to as bearing bronzes. It is produced by the continuous casting process according to EN 1982 with machining allowance or by the centrifugal casting method. Tin bronzes are produced in a wide range of alloys, the most common being CuSn12 and CuSn7Zn4Pb7 (Rg7).

Tin bronze alloy CuSn12 (CSN 42 3123) is characterised by high wear resistance even at high sliding speeds. At the same time it resists atmospheric corrosion and the corrosive effects of water very well. It is used, for example, for the production of bearings with high sliding speed, heavily loaded worm gears, spindles, gears, pressure nuts.

The tin bronze alloy CuSn7Zn4Pb7 (CSN 42 3137) has good sliding properties even for occasional dry running when putting machinery into operation, it is easy to machine and has a good lubricating structure. Typical applications are the manufacture of machine parts subject to friction or the production of pans and housings for machine tool bearings. Other applications are, e.g., slide belts, guide bushings, trapezoidal nuts, etc.          

Tin bronzes in the form of round, square, flat and hexagonal bars and tubes in CuSn12 and CuSn7Zn4Pb7 alloys are available in stock in a large size range; other tin bronzes are available according to the current production of foundries.

Standard production lengths of tin bronze rods and tubes are 3000 mm. It is also possible to deliver them in cross-sections without the requirement for a minimum quantity.
